Pain is a horrible and debilitating disease. It can, and has ruined many lives. Chronic pain can cause divorce, abuse, affect your performance at work, cause you to not be a good parent, mental disorders, suicide, and as many other bad things as you can think of. At the Lexington Headache Clinic, we take our job very seriously. (That does not mean we can't laugh while we work. We do.) You have entrusted us to help you manage your pain and that is exactly what we intend to do. We are successful over 90% of the time in completely managing your pain. The reason that we have this phenomenal success is that each of us knows that we don't know everything about pain, but together we know "one heck of a lot" about managing your pain. The other reason that we are so successful is that we listen to you, explain in ways that you will understand what and why we are doing what we are doing, and we include you in the treatment. This means that you will have homework!! We expect you to keep a pain diary, if you are reading this on the internet, we expect you to give us periodic updates on your progress, and when it is time, we expect you to do your at home exercises and other pain managing protocols throughout the day. In closing, we want to keep our percentage of success above 90% and we rarely use narcotic or other scheduled medication.1 This means we have to diagnose you correctly, treat you appropriately, and follow up with you during your course of treatment. After you have completed the active part of the program, we will strongly encourage you to stay with us for continued exercise programs or to join an exercise facility that meets your needs, does not intimidate you, and is also convenient. If you have questions please feel free to contact us by email. We check email each business day and have the appropriate team person answer it. 2 If you have an extreme episode of pain, please call us, and we will try to see you the same day. We look forward to meeting you. All of us want exactly what you do... getting and keeping you out of Pain. 1 Scheduled medications are like Valium or Xanax or narcotics. These medications have a potential for abuse and addiction. These are not bad drugs when you need them. We just very rarely need them. 2 Just one note about questions over the Internet. Pain is extremely complex. The web site does not address all of the possibilities of the cause and treatment of chronic pain. There is also something very important about eye contact that the internet just does not have... even a live video just does not work as well as eye to eye contact! |
